Alpian is a Swiss digital private bank that combines everyday banking services and wealth management in a single app. We sat down with Victor Cianni, Chief Investment Officer, to understand how Performance Watcher helps his team prove the value of their management to clients and why benchmarking has become a key pillar of their investment approach.

Can you tell me a bit about your company and your role?

I am Head of Investments at Alpian. I joined the bank in 2021 to build and manage, together with my team, the investment offering.

Our mission is simple: to ensure a solid investment process and to offer our clients the ideal conditions to reach their financial objectives.

What influenced your decision to partner with Performance Watcher?

When you build a bank and an investment platform, you need clear reference points. Performance Watcher has been the ideal platform to obtain them.

It has allowed us, and still allows us today, to compare ourselves with our peers, to understand the strengths of our investment processes and to identify areas for improvement. In turn, we can communicate these benchmarks clearly to our clients.

How would you describe Performance Watcher? What words or ideas come to mind when you think about it and its place in your professional activity?

For us, Performance Watcher is a compass that accompanies us in good times and bad, when markets rise and when they fall.

It is also a kind of “room of truth”, a reality check that shows whether we have done a good job or not, and whether clients were right to place their trust in us.

How does Performance Watcher help you demonstrate your value or explain your work to clients?

The main question our clients ask us, especially when they entrust their money to a young bank, is: was I right to entrust my portfolio to Alpian rather than to bank X? Our role is to give them factual answers.

We systematically compare the performance of our mandates with that of the Performance Watcher indices so that clients do not have to take our word for it. What motivates us is seeing that, year after year, in terms of comparison, we are holding up well.

Would you recommend Performance Watcher to colleagues in your field? Why or why not?

Without hesitation.

If you are an investment professional with a minimum of ethics, a concern for transparency and a genuine desire to improve your investment process, then Performance Watcher is made for you.
