MFM Mirante Fund Management (MFM) is an independent wealth management firm founded in 2003 by Mr. Mirante. Initially specialised in convertible bonds, the firm expanded into wealth management in 2016 — the same year Sébastien Berthoud, Partner and Director, joined MFM. He has been a partner since 2020, within the firm’s Wealth Management team, and now also heads MFM’s pension unit. We spoke to him about how MFM uses Performance Watcher.

How would you describe Performance Watcher?

It’s a simple, transparent tool. Above all, it gives us independence: Performance Watcher isn’t affiliated with any bank or insurer. It lets clients see an overview of the performance we deliver, measured against other banks and other competitors.

How do you use Performance Watcher?

We already have our own management and analysis tools internally. What Performance Watcher adds is a way to track the competition: to see what other players are doing, whether we’re moving with the same trend, or whether we’re drifting away from it — so we can react accordingly.

I’ve known Nicolas for several years — he’s the one who first presented the product to us. When I joined MFM in 2016, I felt it was a good tool to help us on the marketing side, to grow our client base and reach future prospects.

What do you value most about Performance Watcher?

Today, the peer comparison is what we use the most. It reassures our prospects and younger clients about our management approach: they can see that we rank in the top 5 over a given period, and that we perform as well as large banks or large institutions.

Would you recommend Performance Watcher to your colleagues?

Yes — because the tool is simple to use and transparent, and the data it offers is accessible to everyone. It’s one of the few comparison tools that ranks by risk level, which means comparing like with like. It’s also valuable to be able to compare ourselves against other providers — other banks or other wealth managers.
